Massive Attack at Sydney Opera House – 15th March 2010
We’re just back from seeing Massive Attack on the first night of the Opera House gigs and WOW – they were pretty awesome to say the least.
A really great mix of new and old, and to be honest, the show was fabulous – lights and sounds to groove to and the setting of the Opera House Forecourt – to just go wow.
One thing that really stood out was the lighting screen – it was like a storybook in its own right, starting out really simply and getting more and more complex as the night went on. It was almost an equaliser at one point, but morphing through binery, code, phrases, videos and pictures – and the messages – well – it’s Massive Attack. Human Rights was quite prominent with a few cheers for some choice phrases that came up.
The acoustics were really good – I had expected them to be awful, but considering that it was just in front of the Opera House & the Harbour it was better than Good Vibes.
If you have got tickets for the second night tomorrow – well done!!! if you haven’t – get out there on ebay or where-ever to get some!
They were supported by Martina Topley Bird as both the support act and one of the main singers in the performance – she was amazing, especially with her sampling & layering. She played completely alone and had everyone going before the main show. Wicked!
We were really lucky, as we brought tickets to see Massive Attack in the first show that they were doing at Hammersmith Apollo in February, but obviously… we were here in Sydney which presented a little bit of a problem. We ended up getting them sold on Seatwave for about twice as much as we paid for them – which was great because it then meant that we had the money to pay the rather pricey $120 per ticket. To be honest, had we not sold the other tickets it was just too much and we wouldn’t have gone, but… as we did I decided that it would be an opportunity missed in not seeing them (in front of the Opera House as well)
I took plenty of pictures and several videos that I will upload now and update this thread over the next few minutes whilst they upload.

Spencer Tunick – Base at Sydney Opera House
Oh my god, just back from doing the Spencer Tunick Base photograph at the Sydney Opera House.
My Photos from the Spencer Tunick Sydney Opera House Base Installation to follow (once de-boobed and blurred) will be here:

What an amazing experience. Apparently over 5000 took part in the naked art on the steps and inside the Sydney Opera House on the 1st of March.
Why? Well I had seen his pictures before and when it came up whilst we were here – it was very much – Why Not? I’m not shy, I don’t really care about being naked in the way that some people get hung up about it. We both wanted to go, but Herself was not well over the weekend, and to be honest – it was that cold that she DEFINITELY wouldn’t have enjoyed it – she’s a bit nesh (cold blooded).
Apart from being blooming FREEZING and quite windy, it didn’t rain and I have to say it was a hoot!
Everyone was really friendly, fun, respectful and were there for the right reasons – to enjoy themselves.
Met two lovely people who I ended up spending all of the time outside with, and would hope to keep in touch with.
